Outnorth
The O is for Outnorth
Background
Outnorth has established itself as one of the leading outdoor e-commerce players in the Nordic region, offering a great range of products for every kind of outdoor adventure. Yet, despite this stronghold, the brand lacked the distinct visual identity and premium edge needed to evolve from a mere e-commerce retailer into a true outdoor destination.
Solution
We created a concept that turned the two O:s in Outnorth into a simple and dynamic visual system. Letting the circle act as a unifying thread across touchpoints - highlighting products, carrying imagery and building headlines. Combined with a bold colour palette, distinctive typography and a flexible design system, the new identity positions Outnorth as a more modern, premium and unmistakable destination for outdoor enthusiasts across the Nordics.
The identity is grounded in a brand strategy built around three pillars - Superior Gear, Nordic Grit and Bold Explorers - giving Outnorth both a clear market position and a genuine personality. Combined with a bold colour palette, distinctive typography and a flexible design system, the new identity positions Outnorth as a bigger, more modern and unmistakable destination for outdoor enthusiasts across the Nordics.

The identity system was built to travel. Across social formats, the circle becomes a motion device - text runs along its edge, symbols replace letters in headlines, and the O adapts to whatever it needs to carry. On the website, products are arranged in circular carousels that echo the same shape, turning even a product listing into a brand moment. The result is a design system flexible enough to work everywhere, and consistent enough to be unmistakably Outnorth.

The typeface Denim INK WD brings a confident, modern character to the brand – its soft inner corners and slightly flattened overshoots giving it a friendly precision that works across every scale, from bold campaign headlines down to product listings and price tags. The same typeface that carries the brand voice also carries the brand device: the rounded inner corners of the letterforms echo the symbols and illustrations that replace the letter O across headlines and communications.

Every letter O in the brand's communication can be replaced by a symbol or illustration drawn from a custom-built library. The symbols, from pine trees and compasses to snowflakes and smiley faces, are designed with the same rounded inner corners as the typeface, tying the entire visual system together. The result is a headline treatment that feels both ownable and endlessly adaptable across seasons, categories and campaigns. The library spans two distinct styles: precise graphic icons and looser hand-drawn illustrations, each sized to sit perfectly within the letterforms. New symbols can be created following the same construction principles, giving the brand room to grow without losing coherence.
